Hi, I'm after some help
Our wedding was scheduled on the 1st August this year however we took the very hard decision to postpone our wedding until July next year. Everyone has been ok with this apart from 2 suppliers arnt able to do the new date. One has apologised at the fact they can't do the new date and returned the deposit the other has said speak to our insurance regards getting a deposit back.
After speaking to our insurance, due to us changing the date they can't recover the deposit but directed us to the CMA report that states
a consumer cancels, or is prevented from receiving any services, because Government public health measures mean they are not allowed to use the services
We sent this to the supplier and they replied with
As I am aware weddings are able to go ahead from July therefore your wedding wouldn't be within government guidelines
Now if we had gone ahead with our wedding half of the guests wouldn't have come or off hand 10 are key workers going in a room with a few elderly relatives if they had all turned up, all I want is my deposit back because I have made the right decision to protect my families health by postponing my wedding

What you want sadly does not come in to it. You have decided for your own personal reasons to change dates, this is not the fault of the company. If the wedding can legally proceed then you are relying on good will.4

You will need to wait until the date and see what the guidelines are by then.
If whatever service it is cannot go ahead, then you can get your deposit back. If their service CAN go ahead, then you are at the good will of the company, so I wouldn't go spouting consumer rights at them when they have the upper hand at the moment.
Can they not postpone their services? It won't be just the deposit necessarily that you will lose. At some point (depending on your T&Cs) you will have to pay the balance.
What service is it?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)3 -
the service in question is flowers, she cant do the new date as this was the best solution for us.
she has sent a message this morning saying she is going to send the deposit back as a matter of good will0 -
That's good, you need to thank her as she really didn't have to do that.
It's not her fault that half of your guests wouldn't have been able to make it, the decision was entirely yours.4
