Closing new Barclays account

Hello all. I did have a MSE account but lost all log in so started again. Ok yesterday I opened a new Barclays account and was successful and card and pin are on way. I have since decided to stay with my old bank so don't want the new Barclays account. Its hard to get through to the bank as huge queues and the dedicated line just cuts you off.
Soooo, do i just not activate the card when it arrives or simply post it back to them with a note explaining my decision ? Any other useful info from folk who have done similar ? They really are a nightmare to get hold of even though the Covid is reducing hours it seems these are worst of the banks.
Thank you.

Write a letter and close the account.0

Have you requested a CASS of the old bank account?
You could ask you 'old' bank to refuse the CASS.

Shearings holidays have gone bust last Friday, all banks are swamped with callers doing chargebacks so they get their money back.0

Magicman - is the account you have with your existing bank the only account you have ?
The school of thought these days is that you should have accounts with more than one bank - just in case your bank thinks you may have been money laundering or they have IT issues.
I suggest you continue with the Barclays application and use it occasionally.
