I moved into a new build in 2018 and started an application to British Gas to register my solar panels before the standard changed last year. Due to an issue with the dates on the MCS certificate and the company producing the certificate going bust I am still trying to register them so I'm not getting any money back from them.
My question is while the application is still going through am I still benefiting from any 'free' electricity generated by the solar panels during sunshine hours if appliances are turned on in the house, should my bills be a little cheaper?

That is really a question you will have to answer for yourself, do you understand how your system is configured and controlled? You should be able to see how much energy you are exporting (if any) vs using within the house.0

Best place to ask this is in the Green and Ethical sub forum, there’s a huge amount of solar panel discussion and expertise there. To answer your question though, yes, if you’re generating then use what you can of it. How many panels do you have?Edit: take a look at your generation meter to see how much you’ve generated so far. In the sunny weather we’re currently enjoying it should be flashing away like a good ‘un! Also assumes they made a better job of the physical install than they did of the paperwork.0

Is this seen on the meter outside or the little meter on the dis-board?

I have 9 panels - will the electricity i am generating automatically get used within the house or do i need to configure something to do this?

So long as the panels are generating OK, it just works. There's nothing to configure. Kirchhoff's Current Law (aka Kirchhoff's 1st Law) just does it all for you.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0
