Furlough loophole

Hi, I wondered if anyone could advise on this specific situation please.
My daughter finished working her notice period on 28/2 with her previous employer and commenced her training for a new employer (large airline) on 9/3.
Training was due to last 6 weeks but less than 2 weeks in, it was all cancelled because of Corona virus related problems.
My daughter received proportionate pay for the period worked with airline but P45'd thereafter.
New employer refusing to furlough as well as her previous employer.
I think this is unfair and wondered if she has any chance of getting anything?
Thanks

Apart from Universal Credit, no. No employer has to furlough staff and expecting either of the two ex-employers to do so is asking too much, furlough isnt a freebie for the employer as employees gain holiday rights during it.

As above, furlough is entirely at the discretion of the employer and I'm afraid the employee has no recourse if it is refused. In addition, your daughter has very few statutory rights as she had been in the new job for such a short period of time. She should look into UC, mortage/loan repayment holiday etc to help her through. If she is living with a partner they will have to apply for UC as a couple and joint finances will be taken into account. Savings of more than £16000 will preclude an application.
    It's not difficult!

There is no right to be furloughed by either employer. The airline business will see more redundancies so unlikely she would be taken back on because there would most likely not be a role for her afterwards.
So in the past two months what has she done? Hopefully she has managed to get something somewhere or has applied for UC.

In the case of the latter employer she probaby wouldnt have been on the system in time for their cut off anyway.

Her new employer probably can't furlough her as she would not have been paid in time. Her old employer will not want to as it will cost them. I am guessing with it being training for an airline chances are that will not be going ahead any time soon, so she be best looking for a new job.

She's got a 2nd interview this week in another sector so fingers crossed, shame though as the 'dream job' will have to wait until the market support's new recruits again..

Could be awhile until they recruit again, as pretty much all airlines will be laying staff off.
