What happens to Ts and Cs if we move our holiday dates?

I'm booked with Virgin Holidays to go to WDW in August. They've stated on website they will allow changes to dates up to next Dec so I'm debating whether to amend our holiday dates.
We have decided we don't want the Disney magic spoiled by the restrictions of masks, no characters, potential restrictions on pool use etc. so we really don't want to go this year.
I either wait it out and hope the holiday can't go ahead because of US flight restrictions or I see if I can move to another date and possibly a different hotel end of next year.
My question is - what happens to Ts and C's with regards to cancellation? If I move our holiday to an alternative date with Virgin and decide, say next Spring, that I want to cancel, I assume I will be within my rights to do so and the penalties will run in line with the new dates, ie loss of deposit up to 85 days prior to departure. Is that correct?
In addition,  will the deposit amount be the deposit I originally paid, or the equivalent amount of the new holiday total?

I’ve done amendments with Virgin in the past (not COVID related though).

Usually the deposit amount remains the same as they don’t as I recall
so not the low deposit thing that other agencies do, it’s £175pp or was when I last booked and that was standard across all their American destinations. It’s not clear from your post whether they are allowing free amendments but if not they are within their rights to charge a fee for that and we were charged £35 pp to do that (this was a year ago though and we had to postpone for medical reasons). You will probably also find the holiday price has increased.

Once you amend you will get a new invoice but with your existing booking reference, t’s and c’s remain the same however for cancellations if you need too it’ll be your new payment date that they take into account and not your old one so you are correct that if you need to cancel you’d just lose the deposit any any amendment fees paid.

I can understand why you want to move it, I wouldn’t want to go that far out for the experience not to be the same. I think by that point in August they would hope to be operating to some level so I don’t think it will be cancelled from their end sadly (I’m not an expert and clearly could be wrong about that).

Thanks Mrsn, yes they're waiving the amendment fee so I think I'm going to opt to move dates and decide nearer the time whether to go ahead, depending on what the covid situation is.
