Car Accident - Not at fault. Confused over insurance, what is the best way to go about this?
Hi, has anyone been in a similar situation to me?
I had an accident that wasn't my fault. The other drivers (hastings) insurance phoned me to confirm that the other driver admitted liability. I gave them some information but didn't agree to anything, they gave me a claim ref number and contact details.
They offered a replacement car, while car is being looked at and claims sorted, which would be sorely needed. Later, I went to my insurance and opened the claim.
My insurance said this was "clear cut no fault" claim, will waive my excess, and my NCB won't be affected.
For a replacement car, my insurer re-directed me to a company called "auxillis" which is a credit hire company, I noticed the daily rate for those cars are huge, and apparently, if these companies can't get that back, they will charge me instead.
Is it better to take up the replacement from the other insurer and continue with my claim with my insurance? Is that possible? Will this affect my claim? I am honestly very confused over insurance, I've never had to deal with this before.

You do not need to claim off your insurance if the third party insurance is sorting everything out0

As above you didn't need to contact your insurance........Hastings will sort it out for you0

Contact your insurer again and tell them that you're not making a claim, merely advising them of the incident and that the TP insurer is dealing with it as their customer has admitted liability. Then go back to Hastings and accept their offer of a hire car. Then deal with them for the repairs etc. to your own car.
Insurers love non-fault claims as they can try and fleece the TP insurer to maximise their profit. (Yet the same insurer will cry foul when another insurer does the same to them).2 -
auxillis Does specialise in replacement cars in these circumstances. But remember to clean car inside and not to use any bleach disinfectant on car handles as it will damage paint. Stay safe.

Definitely go direct to the other driver's insurer, rather than the ambulance-chasing premium-rate hire car company your insurer's fobbed you off with.0

As others have said go with 3rd party, but insist you get a like for like hire car. Ask for confirmation in writing from third party. Check T&Cs carefully before you sign anything.
Be aware that Auxillis will demand payment from you if, for what ever reason, 3rd party don't pay their inflated charges.

Question : If the OP applies for car insurance in the future with someone else, do they have to admit that they had an accident ?

Yes, because they have.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

As above, yes they do. The fact that it was non-fault does not mean the accident didn't happen, just that they had no liability for it.0

Steer well clear of auxillis, they are pretty dodgy. Just search the forum for problems with them.0
