Owe back furlough?

Ok so I'm Furloughed from the 1st April until 1st July. Full pay our business is owned by 2 companies so they pay the other 20%. My boss says we will owe him when we return to work and will have to work over our contracted hours to pay back the time we have had off. Is this legal? I work 3 days a week and I'm expected to work extra days free of charge as I'm in debt to him. Appreciate peoples thoughts.

Sounds a lovely employer.  Tell him you will just take the 80% furlough payment.

You can report him  to HMRC via this link https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/hm-revenue-customs/contact/customs-excise-and-vat-fraud-reporting - he cannot make you pay back the 80% that he received from the Government

Thank you for the input. Can he make me work to pay off the 20%? If so how would he work that out into time? So confusing

He can ask you to work unpaid overtime, unless working it would take you below NMW.
Your contract might oblige you to do it or you might be free to tell him to poke it. Only you are in a position to know the likely outcome of the latter
