Go for a cordless strimmer. Out of interest why don't you want a tap and release one?0

A picture and/or size indication would help. Rough weeds could be almost anything, and between paving slabs is very different from 20m2 of brambles! A trimmer and a brush cutter are different things, so many of us have both. It sounds like you want something heavier duty, going for petrol, but modern battery technology means for some things petrol is outdated. Do you want to spend £150 or £400? Sounds daft, but you'll get what you pay for!

I've got a 5 in 1 garden multi tools (stimmer/bush cutter, chainsaw, hedgecutter etc) my one is the small 25cc engine, had it about 5 yrs, (its one of the Chinese no name ones), they are now mostly 52cc engines
as Davesnave says without see your "rough weeds" don't know what to suggest.
I use the stimmer head in my garden and along the lane I use the bushcutter head as there are nettles, branches/twigs, hogwood etc

If it's a one off job, with a view to doing something with that section, hire a petrol one. No responsibility for maintaining / storing it afterwards.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.1

Before I lashed out £400, I wanted to get a feel for what I'd be buying. Also, any cheapie from Scr*wf*x comes with a guarantee for at least a year and they don't quibble either. Had a chain saw that lasted 4 years before it stripped its gears. = £12.50/year!

Hire is a good idea, although the weeds will be up again in a few weeks. Spray them once they are at a manageable height, otherwise you could be visiting the hire shop a couple of times this summer.
