Sainsbury's Travel Insurance Refund

Hi there,
I submitted a curtailment claim through our travel insurance with Sainsbury's.  On the form it asks for a pro-rata calculation which I stated was 3 nights of our 7 night stay as our trip was cut short (returned 18/03 instead of 21/03) due to Covid-19 and the Dominican Republic closing it's borders.  We were put on a repatriation flight with BA to get us back to the UK.
The travel insurance has come back and calculated a pro-rata amount based on the number of days of the trip that we missed, which they say is 3 (19, 20 & 21/03).  How can they calculate it based on the number of days instead of the number of nights that we lost on the hotel?
I have queried this with them, also saying that we missed out on 4 days since the repatriation flight was 8:30am on 18/03 but am wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience?
I'm sure they're trying to get out of paying us less but want to make sure that we're getting back what we should be.

Cheers

What percentage is the insurer offering you?

They're giving us 3 of 8 days (37.5%) and I was expecting 3 of 7 nights (42.9%) as their form suggested - before the excess is deducted, which I have no issues with.

Deleted previous post  as need further info.
With your repatriation flight  did you have to pay extra for it,  or were your old flight moved forward?

We weren't required to pay anything additional for it as we were flying with BA for both legs.  BA brought forward the flight date from 21/03 to 18/03 to ensure that we would be able to get back to the UK as Dom Rep was closing.
I also provided Sainsbury's with a letter from the hotel stating that we paid for 7 nights, departed early and did not receive a refund or credit for the 3 missed nights.

Are Sainsbury's  offering 37.5% of the total cost of the holiday?
And was it a package,  or just hotel you are claiming for?

Only 37.5% of the hotel (3 of 8 days).  We didn't claim anything for the flights since there was nothing to claim as BA returned us home.  The hotel and flights were booked separately.

It doesn't seem right what they are doing,  but not sure if they are correct.
To counter their working out,  you could work out how many hours you were due to spent in Dominican Republic ( as you say you left on a earlier flight time) and how many hours you missed.  Then send them a percentage based on he actual time missed, this would bet he most accurate calculation, as your last "day" is really a 1/3 of a day
