I’ve blocked other compers before. Only when I’m getting constant notifications that they have retweeted my retweets etc and they don’t even follow me. It becomes obvious that some actively go out of their way to go on your profile and work there way down entering everything you have. I don’t mind if it’s someone following me but I am afraid I find it rude if they don’t!
I do get that - I say above that I take part in comping following chains, but the key point there is that following happens! I'd never seek out a comper who doesn't wish to take part in things like that, and agree that people outwardly using others who share their comps is cheeky to say the least. I'm aware that in the past both people who were part of following chains and those who weren't have chosen to block me. In the case of the non-followers, I noticed a comp announced its winner without '@ing' the profile (who I'd never come across before, to add), but when I went to search to alert them to it I'd already been blocked by them and their comping friends. As I've said, turning off notifications can be done selectively, as can muting. This isn't to sidetrack from the overall point being made here that comping hosts choosing to block comping accounts is nothing more than shooting themselves in the foot and alienating their consumers, which is what we all ultimately are.
