Twitter pages blocking people from following them?

I've noticed this on a few occasions recently, usually when entering multiple comps on Gleam/Rafflecopter, and it's usually the person who is hosting the comp whose Twitter page says I can't follow because they are blocking me. The other Twitter/fb/daily bonus etc entry pathways on the same rafflecopter are always fine. Anyone else come across this?

I've had this before with a couple of twitter accounts, which I've always found odd since it's brand accounts that always collaborate with people running competitions. It's annoying, but I don't try to let it reflect badly upon the host since it's never been them doing the blocking. I've also had it on twitter with a couple of other compers, which I really don't understand (the twitter I use is for comping and getting in touch with brands - no dodgy political views or over-sharing there!) - I get a brand being put off by comping, but why would other compers want to block those sharing competitions?

  • Oh well this discussion wouldn't be right without me wading in!
I'm blocked by loads of compers and when I brought it up here it did not go down well!
I've been blocked by compers who run competitions meaning I can't enter which is hilarious and ironic.
It has been claimed it is because people "retweet their retweets" of competitions which is like 1. The reason brands ask you to share it and 2. oh no, another entry lol
It is one of the funnier sides of comping and really does tarnish some of the community, however you will be able to follow and interact with some compers, I know I do now!
I've noticed an increase of brands hating on comping accounts but it's weird some of the more prominent bloggers don't seem tocfind it goes against them!

I believe some may block you if you unfollow them, to stop you entering their competitions then unfollowing until you want to enter another competition.

Kinda silly really. I only started using Twitter again for comps but find myself on there loads more now, normally end up interacting with bloggers and brands for more than just comps!

I just looked up when this was last chatted about on here and I am so surprised that you were one of the few voices speaking sense (in my opinion anyway). I have never before heard 'retweeting my retweet doesn't count' - Twitter has been around long enough for us all to know how it works, and there is no way that the original poster knows the chain of events that led you to see their tweet. Obviously things like quoting tweets or copy and pasting the body of the competition text in the comments below are errors, but doing the one thing nearly every Twitter competition asks for in the first place isn't, regardless of the source. It sounds more like someone came up with this excuse years ago because they were annoyed that someone was going down their page retweeting competitions they probably got from somewhere like here or another competition site. It's very easy to change settings to stop notifications, or just swipe them away as I do. I've always been happy to take part in following chains and the like because, in my view, it broadens the scope and the enjoyment of it all - someone's going to win whether there are 5 or 500 entries; some people are too precious about focusing on the win in place of the fun.

WKD is because it's alcohol and it doesn't think you are of the legal age, it's done automatically. Do you have your date of birth on your profile?

Not that. I vaguely remember doing my D.O.B. for another alcohol comp recently. Maybe I unliked them once upon a time

I’ve blocked other compers before. Only when I’m getting constant notifications that they have retweeted my retweets etc and they don’t even follow me. It becomes obvious that some actively go out of their way to go on your profile and work there way down entering everything you have. I don’t mind if it’s someone following me but I am afraid I find it rude if they don’t!
