It has Bluu-Ray and High def. Would I be correct in assuming that you'd need an HD monitor to benefit or will a decent PC monitor do the job?
It goes on sale in Aldi tomorrow for £629 - looks a good spec for the money (no monitor though).

It has both a bluray AND an HD DVD reader. It is a loss leader, but the specs are average, Support will be mediocre judging by some reports. As you say to get the very best you would need an HD tv, or a 22"+ monitor
However I would hang fire. Blu ray and HD recorders will be along for PCs very soon. Plextor has already released the PX-B900A a 2x Bluray recorder, and as usual prices are a little extortionate, as is usual with cutting edge technology, but will soon fall, as they have done in the past
My advice is wait0 -
