I contacted Norwegian by a private Facebook message about my flights to/from LGW and Denver, Colorado in June/July. I could see that it was not possible to book flights on the dates we were flying, so suspected that the flights had been cancelled, but we had not received a cancellation email (as it says on the website that we should). I was told that they have a massive backlog to deal with, and that the email or text would arrive much nearer the dates, but that all flights on that route were cancelled to the end of August. I was told to take the following steps to put in my refund request without waiting for the email:
    1. Sign in to the Norwegian website
    2. Go to this page on the Norwegian website: https://www.norwegian.com/uk/flight-status/updates/?promo_name=NAS-corona-home&promo_id=info-hub-from-HP&promo_creative=UK-white-box-HP
    3. Click on "Can I claim a refund or Cashpoints if I cancel my booking?" to open the drop-down options.
    4. If one or more of your flights has been cancelled (even if you haven't been notified yet) you will see a red sentence that says: "If you want to claim a refund, you can cancel your booking and submit a claim." IF YOU ARE LOGGED IN AND DON'T SEE THOSE WORDS THEN YOUR FLIGHT HAS NOT YET BEEN CANCELLED
    5. Follow the steps and fill out the form and you will receive a case number (also confirmed by email).
    6. My email says:
"Thanks for getting in touch with Norwegian. This is a quick note to let you know that we’ve received your inquiry and it’s been assigned the following reference number: XXXXXX-XXXXXX
If you need to send us any extra information, you can reply to this email and attach any documents. It’s best not to send a reminder to this address as it can unfortunately slow our handling process down.
Thanks again for contacting Norwegian; we’ll get back to you as soon as we've finalised your request."

So it seems to me that even if the flights are cancelled the booking will not automatically be cancelled and refunded - you need to manually request this option. I guess they are hoping people will use the credit option instead.

Damn ... My Florida flight isn't until end of September so its only showing the Cashpoints option , which strange as on there Covid T&C is states cashpoints can only been taken if "The outbound flight for the original booking must depart before 21 August 2020"
I didnt follow the process through so it may of declined the Cashpoints as my flight is after 21st August
I checked and you can still book London to Orlando from 1st September onwards ,so im not so sure how true this April 2021 is ??
All i know its very frustrating as you dont want to cancel your disney booking to find your stuck with the flights
The airline's are doing the same as cruise lines, taking your money for advance bookings they almost certainly aren't going to fulfill, then holding on to it as long as possible simply because they need the liquidity in their companies. My understanding of the rules is as you say, in our cases nothing can yet be done until they either extend the period for change beyond 21/8, or officially cancel our flights
  • I have had my Norweigan flight coming home from Miami to Gatwick in August  cancelled, I have the option for full refund or points. This is part of a trip covering Canada and chilling In Miami For our final leg.  My insurance company have said I am covered for whole trip if we reschedule for next year , providing we do not take cash.  Most of out flights are with West Jet who are letting us rebook as soon as flight available in September. If I take cash back from Norweigan would I still be covered on section 75 as paid everything on my credit card. Your help would be appreciated as paid a lot for all of our flights as was supposed to be for out 40th Wedding Anniversary Celebration

If you get a cash refund, and Norwegian really are refunding, there could be no section 75 claim in respect of those flights as they have been refunded. The US certainly isn't going to start admitting UK residents anytime soon and Florida is in the midst of a huge outbreak of the virus, so bad that 3  northern US states have imposed a 14 day quarantine on anyone arriving from Florida so not sure it would be a good idea to go there even if you could.

I think you need to be a bit more specific about your flights as in, were they booked as a complete package, were they booked thru a 3rd party, were they separate transaction to pay each flight and so on, I also don't understand when you talk about "cash back" - do you mean the full refund you mentioned earlier?

  • My flights to canada and down to Miami were all booked via a travel agent as had multi flights. We booked flight home direct as she could not get us a direct flight home so booked with Norwegian.  We are rescheduleding canadian flights once they are available as covered by travel insurance ,I think the airlines we are flying with are ok , however I have found out that our insurance does not cover us for airline failure so a bit worried  regarding Norwegian as believe just about hanging on, if I take credit vouchers I checked with credit card Mastercard and they are telling me that if they fail there has  not been any decision about claiming back if I have accepted credit vouchers, so in a catch 22 situation.  We cannot re book until Sept when the flights become available,  will Norwegian last by next year ? Hopefully my bank insurance will update their policy to cover everything.  I have found some other travel insurance which cover you for both coronavirus and airline failure ,so currently looking around . I have also found out that Norwegian are not ATOL registered so if they go but you get nothing .I think that's made my decision to get cash refund

Thanks, that's a bit clearer, yes take the refund option, then you are free to sort out whatever travel you need rather than stuck with Norwegian. I don't think Norwegian will go under with the rescue measures they've secured, but no point taking risks is there. Good luck.

We had flights cancelled with Norwegian from San Francisco to Gatwick in mid aug. We were only offered cash points but in another thread on here people were posting they had refunds. So I asked how and someone kindly posted a link. I got a refund in less than 2 weeks.  I’ll try and copy the link

  • Thank you,  I will try that
I'm hoping insurance companys will update their Policy cover in the near future , if they dont people wont go anywhere
