Classes replaced with zoom

Before the lockdown I had already paid for theatre craft classes for my daughters a month or so in advance and therefore had ‘credit’when lockdown began. The theatre school have refused to give a refund instead saying they will give online Zoom lessons for the kids. This is fine for one of my daughters but the other will no engage at all with anything online and they will not refund. Where do I stand? In my opinion the online Zoom is not what I paid for and isn’t a suitable alternative for my child. Appreciate your thoughts.....?

  • What does your contract with them say? I imagine it probably doesn't say "we can switch the class to online only at our discretion" in which case they owe you a refund because they have not delivered the promised service.

You are of course free to accept a new contract postponing the services until later if you want, but you don't have to.

If you want your money back insist on a refund. Write to them giving them 10 working days to issue a refund and go from there.

on the flip side though - if the contract doesn't stipulate that it will be taught face to face then you might have to accept
what are the ages of the daughters ? seems odd in this era that a youngster wouldn't/won't engage in anything online - most teenagers nowadays are permanently welded to their phones/social media/facebook etc etc

Ask how they have assessed the safety of using Zoom and how it meets with their safeguarding procedures.

They are 6 and 9. The 9 year old is fine with it. The 6 year old won’t even FaceTime with her grandparents. I have explained this but they refuse to refund or even carry credit until classes resume
