Car lease won’t have used mileage paid for due to coronavirus

Hi everyone
I have a car lease agreement ending Oct 20 and due to covid pre and still ongoing will have not used around 8000 miles Does anyone know if you can claim anything back for unused mileage due to covid. The companies will be getting all our cars back with lower mileage. Kind regards jane

Car lease deals very rarely work like that - though if you had gone over the mileage they would definitely charge you.

The car allowance is the maximum mileage allowance not am exact figure you must hit. Therefore, you only pay more if you go above the mileage and no rebate for using less.
  • Yeah I realise that but I was wondering due to covid can you reclaim anything back because you were unable to hit your milage
  • Or not necessarily hit it but a large chunk of it ??

No, but it means you might be able to make a long journey later this year that would otherwise have taken you over the limit.

You don't have to hit your mileage, it's the maximum you can do without any extra charges.  You can always ask the company but unless it says in your contract they would refund due to low mileage then they are due you nothing.
How about your insurance?  I had an email from my insurance saying they will give me money back if I've gone under my usual mileage.
  • I handed back a lease car in August with 12000 miles less than contracted. Unfortunately it doesn't work like that. Lease companies are very much a heads I win, tails you lose type of business.

  • Shame it's not PCP or you could have benefited from the low mileage perhaps. With a lease the only benefit is to them. There is a reason lease deals are often cheap.
