Balance Transfer Vanished

in Credit cards
Some pretty strange goings on today...
Back Story...
I recently applied for a 0% Virgin Money balance transfer card, as recommended on this site.
During the application process, I entered in the details of the 3 credit cards I wanted transferred.
My application was approved, and I received confirmation that 2 of the cards had been accepted.
I called up and asked why the third wasn't accepted.
"You can't do anyfing AMEX, no transfers, nuffing" was the answer.
I have a few unused (non-AMEX) credit cards lying around, one of which is Tesco Bank.
The credit limit on the Tesco card is around half that of the AMEX balance I need to transfer.
I decided to do 2 cash transfers from Tesco bank to my bank account
And 2 balance transfers from Virgin Money to Tesco.
This cost me a bit in fees, but I figured the 28 month 0% period is still worth it.
I wanted the time lag to be as minimal as possible, so executed the first money transfer from Tesco simultaneously to the balance transfer from Virgin.
It actually worked fine, but I needed to do it again to be able to clear my AMEX balance.
Maybe I didn't wait long enough (the previous balance transfer was showing as "pending" on Virgin even though funds had gone through to Tesco) but I did the same thing again.
It seemed to go through fine.
My available balance dropped accordingly on Virgin and I received a confirmation SMS from Virgin.
Likewise, my available balance dropped on Tesco.
Today...
Upon waking up, I checked my Tesco balance. It showed that I had the full credit limit available.
Great I thought, the cash transfer must have gone through to my bank.
Checked my bank and no cash.
Checked Virgin, and the 2nd balance transfer has disappeared ! The funds are available again, and there's no record of me even requesting it.
Checked my Tesco again and there's no record of me even submitting the 2nd cash transfer !
Both Virgin and Tesco have simultaneously cancelled the balance transfer and money transfer respectively, with no traces of me requesting either.
Both phone lines are closed due to Bank Holiday Monday, and I've got no idea what to make of this.
Either it's a coincidence or there was some agreement between the two banks to cancel the transactions.
Is this kind of thing commonplace ? Any advice ?

If the money transfer didn't go through, then they probably rejected the BT payment from Virgin. So neither coincidence nor agreement.
However - you keep saying a balance transfer FROM Virgin. It would have been TO Virgin, so I wonder if you did it the wrong way round, ot whether it's just a mistake in terminology.0 -
Hi zx81, thanks for your reply.
Sorry, the To and From confuse me sometimes.
To clarify, I wanted to do the following Virgin > Tesco > Bank > AMEX
Where > represents a payment
Both Virgin > Tesco
and
Tesco > Bank
were cancelled at the same time, with no evidence of either transaction being instigated.
I suppose one explanation is that Tesco rejected the Balance Transfer and also cancelled the Cash Transfer to my bank.
But it's still odd that there's no evidence of the balance transfer on Virgin.
Thanks again, will call around tomorrow, was just wondering if anyone had had similar a experience.0 -
Sometimes the transactions disappear for a day or two and then magically return. Happened to me in the past. It would be strange for both banks to cancel the transfers at the same time.
Because it has been a bank holiday weekend, have a look tommorrow and if its still not updated give them a call.0 -
Bet it is because you did not allow the credit time to debit the other account. So that will have been cancelled the 2nd part.
Or it is simply due to the PUBLIC HOLIDAY TODAY. Which means CC systems will not update.Life in the slow lane0
