Virgin Atlantic multi city flights

If I booked a return flight with Virgin and they cancel the first flight, am I entitled to a full refund if the return is a different route?
At the end of June we are suppose to be going on a holiday of a life time to America to celebrate what was going to be the end of GCSE’s for our daughter 😕. I booked a multi city return flight with Virgin Atlantic: Gatwick to Orlando and returning LAX to Heathrow, one booking with one booking reference number. Although I’ve had no notifications from Virgin, I logged into my account today and saw a note to say the first flight had been changed and to click to accept the changes. It didn’t show what the changes were, and it didn’t have anywhere to click to accept, only a note to call. I tried to call Virgin but got cut off.
I’ve looked and Virgin are still flying from LAX to Heathrow.
Luckily I have managed to cancel the internal flights, hotels and villas over the last month and all have been fully refunded back on my credit card, only receiving a credit note for one villa who refused to issue a refund.
Any help would be great before I try to call them again.

The simple answer is Yes.
You have a round trip ticket booked and so with the outbound cancelled you can claim a refund for the whole return ticket.
The airline has a facility to request a change or refund via WhatsApp. Check website for details and number. You may find this an easier route to make contact and request your refund.1 -
I received an email this morning from Virgin to say my flight was cancelled but then got a response back from the automated system to say that emails had been sent out in error and it may not be cancelled .... Hopefully I should be able to get in touch over the next couple of weeks and get an answer. Thank you0

Virgin are cancelling flights approximately two to three weeks ahead of time, for example this morning I had an email cancelling the return flight of my booked trip which was the 12th June.
I agree with Westin, I had my refund arranged via Whatsapp, it starts off as an automated system and two days later had a message agreeing the refund, just got to wait for the refund to arrive back in the account now.1 -
Sorry to hear that, we’d pretty much done exactly the same for our son who should also have been finishing his exams. We were due to go to Orlando 25th June. ☹️We received our email on Sunday morning confirming cancellation. If you go through their web information, you’ll see that there’s a number that you can WhatsApp..... you follow various screen prompts and then state that you want a refund rather than a voucher. We’ve just received the reply from an actual person, rather than automated responses, today confirming that they’ve passed it to the refunds team to process but that itll take a while, which I guess is to be expected.
good luck with the refund. The whole situation is so sad though isn’t it. No end of school, no prom, no celebratory holiday, I’m sure we’ll have some sad faces in our house when the particular dates come around.1 -
One of the sad faces may be yours when you discover Virgin are taking 100 days from the request to process the refund. Better to know now than think you have been forgotten later!0

Bless you, I know exactly how you’re feeling..... It’s amazing how resilient the teens can be though, I often find myself having mini meltdown moments whilst they seem to shrug it off a little bit more. I guess we can do it when they finish their A levels /college instead 😊
I’m not sure I’d you have it already but I also have this email address, might be worth sending the request there as well: Refunds.HQ@fly.virgin.com1
