Self Employment Grant and Universal Credit

I am a full time carer receiving Universal Credit. Until a couple of years ago I worked full time to support my wife and I, whom I have always provided full time care for but only claimed since December 2018 when I became ill and was unable to support us financially.
I still operate my self employed business in a limited capacity.
I applied for the self employment grant and was told I had received an award. I understand, now, that this will now count as income to be deducted from the Universal Credit we receive.
As the award is for three months, will the amount be spread over three months or deducted all at once? I intend t inform UC using my journal as soon as the payment is received. I don't want to do it yet because UC are easily confused and I don't want to make things more difficult if the money is not actually awarded because of some other reason I'm not aware of.
All thoughts welcome.

I believe it is deducted ‘all at once’ so affects one UC period.

The SEISS grant is classed as earnings in the month it's received. You will need to report that along with any expenses you have on your journal once you receive it. If you don't have the work allowance then the 63% deductions will apply.

Depending on the size of the grant and how your UC entitlement is calculated it may result in no UC payable for the month in which you receive SEISS and could affect more than one month of UC.You report the grant at the same time as you report your monthly business income and expenditure. From other threads it appears there is a separate item specifically for SEISS.

  • I notified HMRC in my journal that I’d received SEISS. I will receive NO universal credit this month..( I get paid 29th of each month)

I assume you mean DWP. You may find SWISS also impacts the next month of UC also - it entirely depends on the amount of grant and how your UC award is made up.
