Allowing a business to be a custodian of your money is like putting a fox in charge of a chicken coup. The journey your money takes is shareholders first and whether they still have the stomach to invest in the business to help it survive difficult times. If not enough are up for the challenge the business calls in the receivers and you join a long line of creditors. Said businesses seem to expect to operate with customers money. Why, for example, do you have to pay the full balance of a cruise 3 months prior to departure? Lets take a small operator with 1 ship carrying say 500 pax. Average cost per week of £2k a head, that is £1,000,000! Multiply by 12 weeks that is £12mil, add to that the 20% deposits for anything up to another 12 months and that is almost enough to buy a ship, certainly enough to lease one. Hmmmmmm, shame I'm retired, I should be going into the cruise business!
