Tonik Energy, AVOID!
Options
I just want to warn people about issues with Tonik Energy.
I left in January with a £137 credit on my account. I didn't receive a bill confirming this until April 8th (bill dated April 2nd).
Looking at reviews on various websites I am by no means the only one.
It's looking like they may be going out of business, with debts, so I recommend not building any credit with them as you may not get it back.
I'm not very hopeful for my money.

I had exactly the same issue recently. I had more luck corresponding with them via Facebook. I also contacted Citizens Advice. Approx 2 months after receiving my final bill I did receive my credit refund and compensation!0

I'm having problems with TONIK. Despite switching to them in September 19 it is only now they are supplying my gas. They have no base line meter reading so how they are going to work out how much I owe them beats me! When I tried to enter my gas meter reading online, I got an email saying 'thanks for renewing with TONIK' & they've put me on a different tariff! I only ever get an automated reply to emails. I've spent hours on the phone. 2 operators have promised to callback within 48 hours. I think the next step is to stop my DD. That may prompt action.0

I switched from TONIK in January and had built up £290 credit. No repayment as emails sent to them resulted in "we are updating our billing systems and want to make sure your final bill is correct." One reply on 8 April resulted in an update but no final credit returned . Still waiting for my estimate of £250 owing to me! Email sent requesting repayment 10 days ago..... no reply.AVOID TONIK..... I don`t understand how TONIK gets a top listing in the Telegraph money sections at weekends and MSE still lists it but with a caveat about final billing issues!0

We switched from Tonik this month. Luckily our account was marginally in debit rather than credit at the final bill point. We left the direct debit in place for them to take the final payment. A week before the final payment was due to be taken out, we got a "you haven't paid your bill" email from the collections department. I telephoned (waited an interminable amount of time to get through to someone), only to be told there was a 'glitch' in their system and that the direct debit would be taken normally. They did ask me if I wanted to pay the bill by phone which I declined. Yesterday the direct debit was taken, for the correct amount. Our account online shows a zero balance. This morning we get an even more threatening email from collections, with lots of red text, telling us we owe them money. As I type I have been on the phone listening to their dreadful hold music for 21 minutes and counting. Do not touch this company with a ten foot pole. Having now ascertained that our online account is zero, and confirmed with our bank that the amount due has been deducted, we have cancelled the direct debit. Thank God we weren't in a position where they owed US!!!0

Now they have sent an email, in response to mine, that their 'hello@tonikenergy.com' email address is no longer monitored and out of use, so there is no way to contact them direct. Will try Facebook next.1

I too have had problems with Tonik since the beginning of the year (not getting statements etc.). I moved from Tonik on 5 March with a credit balance over £200. After much badgering I got a final bill on 23 April showing I was £209 in credit. I have been trying to get that back since. Eventually I had to resort to raising a complaint with OFGEM which, to their credit, started the case on 27 May. Yesterday, interestingly Tonik refunded the £209 back to my current account. Result!1
