Cancellation Advice

We have a holiday booked in September 2020. I have health issues and we cannot travel. The lead passenger booked and paid her full holiday amount as deposit. We are cancelling more than the 70 days before the holiday which would normally mean you lose your £60 deposit. Are we entitled to receive back the amount of money paid as deposit less £180 the normal deposit for 3 passengers.

You have not mentioned the holiday company so no one can check for you, however the quickest route to answer will be probably found if you read the terms and conditions of your booking.

Your travel insurance should possibly cover you for health issues
  • The holiday is booked with Jet2 and 60 pounds is full deposit. I suffer with asthma and  I am in my late 70s. I have been in isolation since commencement of coronavirus. If holidays commence by September 2020 I would not travel. The full amount is due to be paid at the end of June 2020. I would wish to book the same holiday September 2021 and have the overpaid deposit transferred for this new booking. I have been told that a sick note for insurance purposes may not be possible

You may be able to change the dates of your holiday.
There may be restrictions on how far ahead you move it and a previous poster reported having to pay in full by the scheduled dat to move it to another date, I don't know what company that was with.
Travel insurance would probably only pay out with a medical certificate that you were not medically fit to travel- not for a change of mind or fear of getting the  virus.

Due to the ongoing uncertainty caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we’ve decided to recommence our flights programme on 1 July 2020. If you're travelling before this date, unfortunately, your booking will be affected as our flights won't be operating. We’re proactively contacting all affected customers about their options, in departure date order, which we think is the fairest way. Please be patient with us as we do this and remember that we’ll get in touch with you.

If you’ve made a booking that’s currently unaffected and you would like to either amend it or cancel, this will be in line with our terms and conditions.

If you’re due to travel after 30 June 2020, you can also talk to your travel insurance provider for more information.

To find out whether you fall into one of the vulnerable categories, further information from the UK government can be viewed here.

From my experiences with Jet2 they are the most customer focused of any tour operator I have ever used.  As you are looking to change dates rather than cancelling they are likely to be supportive.  There may be an admin charge for the changes and you will have to pay the difference between the cost this year and the cost next year.  That figure could be substantial.  Our holiday in May this year was cancelled and I did a price comparison for the same dates next year.  This year £1140, next year £1760 for a couple.
