Disputed payment

I asked my credit card co. to prevent a payment being taken from my card as I realised that it was a potential scam. They said I would have to wait for the payment to be processed and then dispute it. Is this correct ?

Yes, assuming this is a one-off payment that you've made that's still in progress - once they've initially authorised the transaction then they're obliged to settle it by paying the other party's bank, so once that's done then further dialogue can take place.
On the other hand, if you're referring to a future occurrence of a recurring payment, then they can prevent that.1 -

Can't block a payment that has not been processed, unless it's a CPA.
Perhaps a bit more info would help for better advice.Life in the slow lane1
