Hi ..my son is applying for Student Loan and a Bursary..within this current time have found it really difficult to get through the months financially ...we previously were awarded tax credits until February where they had overpaid us ..being paid back gradually ..at present we are not receiving credits ...and our income is low and was back in 2018/19 which is when the student finance want the figures from ...Basically if I owe the Inland Revenue due to a substantial overpayment...will my son get help with his loans ? Thankyou

Tax credits have nothing to do with student loan eligibility1

Your son will get the loan amount decided based on your 2018/19 income and nothing else. If your income is significantly lower than that now you can ask for that to be taken into account during calculation.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

Your debts have no impact on his student loan. In fact as long as he has no shared accounts or credit with you absolutely none of any bad financial things you have going on will have any impact in regards to loans, mortgages etc so you're not harming his future in that respect.0
