Jet2 amendment charges!

Hi. We are booked to go on our family holiday on August 3rd to Turkey. We have finally got hold of Jet2 who say we will be charged £40 per person to amend the holiday to 2021. I checked the same hotel and it is almost £700 more expensive than the price we paid this year! I just feel very reluctant to over £800 extra through no fault of our own. Do we pay the balance on the holiday and hope that jet2.com cancels the holiday and we get a full refund? My concern is that we risk being told we can go on a holiday with social distancing measures in place which we don't want as we have children and want the full holiday experience.  My sister has booked through Tui and she has been able to amend for no extra charge. Any advice would be appreciated.  Many thanks

  • I have just attempted to defer our package holiday with Sovereign Luxury Travel for September this year until the same time next year.  Although the Sovereign representative we spoke with was very helpful, she informed us there would be an increase in the holiday cost owing to an additional charge of £160 by Jet2, with whom we would be flying.  As the flight costs for this year total £424, (£456 next year), is this not an example of an airline that seems oblivious to fairness and a sense of proportionality when travellers simply wish to seek certainty with their holiday, and the fact there is very little involved in administration to amend a booking?
    Has anyone got any suggestions?

Different flights, different prices. Sorry to be blunt but there's just a choice of accept or reject. To also play devils advocate, I am due to go on holiday in July and if I look at the same holiday now, it is cheaper. Unfortunately that's just the way businesses operate.
