    There are struts to suspend the drum in the metal cabinet, so if one of those has snapped that would explain the wobbling and the noise.  I see two possible causes:  uneven or overloading of the machine which has caused a fatal vibration in the strut, or the strut is of poor quality and snapped despite normal use. If your local engineer is prepared to write a short report to state that in his opinion it was the latter, then you can go back to the retailer and ask them for a resolution.
