Storage/Removal companies

My furniture is in storage. I’m living in an Airbnb. As soon as the lockdown was announced the storage/removal company emailed to say that they were closing until further notice. We had an offer accepted on a house that we wanted to buy before the lockdown started and a date to move with the storage/removal company was agreed. Unfortunately the date on the house we were to move to was 10 days after the lockdown. Both our storage/removal company and the people who’s house we are buying storage/removal company are members of the British Association of Removers.
BAR told members not to move anyone during lockdown. Our storage company is still charging us the full storage rates as well as us paying our Airbnb rent.
we are still in lockdown in Scotland. Are the storage company within their rights to charge us full price for storage. I suspect that their workers are furloughed.

  • THis is my web chat with BAR.
Should I have to pay the full amount for my furniture being stored when the storage company is in lockdown. The date that we were to move has passed 4 weeks ago. His is in Scotland.

Thanks for coming on chat. Let me see what I can do for you.
Hello. BAR continue to receive a number of enquiries, in particular, asking for guidance on storage charges during the current situation due to Coronavirus; whether or not Members should be charging their Customers for storage during this time, whether that be ongoing storage charges or access or containers being received and having to go into storage due to being unable to complete the removal to the consumer. In line with the BAR T&Cs Members are within their rights to charge for storage
however, it is hoped removal companies are able to work closely with their customers and come to an agreement to suit all parties during this unprecedented period of time.
Is there anything else I can help you with today?
  • Oh, quite annoying situation. I am not sure why BAR members could not operate, as we are moving company as well, but we were allowed to operate. But yes, we are not BAR members. Anyway, if you or someone is still looking for professional moving company go.

Is exhuming posts from four years ago and talking up your service to a National audience an effective way of marketing a removals company in Exmouth..?
But top marks for imagination and effort!
