XP old desktop PC

I need to use the floppy disc drive in an old desktop PC. I’ve got it running but had to remove some duff boards (that I’ve unplugged) that prevented it booting. As a result XP wants re-activating. Activating XP over the web is a well known nightmare as it produces an error message 32777 - I may need to activate via telephone instead. Meanwhile I’ve used the Re-arm trick in Safe Mode to buy me some time.
Internet Explorer 8 does not function properly as most sites I attempt to access produces error messages or refuses to load them - I’ve no intentions of using the XP desktop for anything that requires personal or financial data/information - but I do want a temporary functional browser running on it. But IE makes things hard to access any site to download another browser. Therefore I assume I’ll have to download the install files (32 bit) on a Windows 10 laptop and transfer this to a flash usb drive to be put into the XP desktop. Have I got this right?
But what browser would still work on XP, please? Any recommendations?
Thanks

If you only need to access or write data to the floppy drive then use a bootable Linux cd like puppy LinuxEx forum ambassador

Error 32777 usually means the date and time is wrong. This would also explain why lots of other things don't work either.1

I tried the telephone activation for xp last week when making a virtual machine - to my surprise it actually worked quite efficiently without having to speak to anyone. Give it a try.1

I would second running a live Linux distribution rather than window XP. Much more secure and it will get everything you need done.

Time & date wrong often means needs new CMOS battery on motherboard. It's amazing how many PCs get binned because people don't know that.1
