XP old desktop PC

I need to use the floppy disc drive in an old desktop PC. I’ve got it running but had to remove some duff boards (that I’ve unplugged) that prevented it booting. As a result XP wants re-activating. Activating XP over the web is a well known nightmare as it produces an error message 32777 - I may need to activate via telephone instead. Meanwhile I’ve used the Re-arm trick in Safe Mode to buy me some time.
Internet Explorer 8 does not function properly as most sites I attempt to access produces error messages or refuses to load them - I’ve no intentions of using the XP desktop for anything that requires personal or financial data/information  - but I do want a temporary functional browser running on it. But IE makes things hard to access any site to download another browser. Therefore I assume I’ll have to download the install files (32 bit) on a Windows 10 laptop and transfer this to a flash usb drive to be put into the XP desktop. Have I got this right?
But what browser would still work on XP, please? Any recommendations?
Thanks
