Unfurloughed wage

So my hubby works for a furniture store which is reopening on saturday so all staff are to be unfurloughed from tomorrow. They have been great and topped up the 80% furlough pay to 90%. Today he has received a company wide email advising all employees will still only receive 90% of their earnings for the next few months. Can they do this?

If it takes him below minimum wage then no they can't, otherwise yes they can. I'd rather have 90% of my pay than no job at all.

Most employers will only do this to keep the business going or to avoid redundancy situation. As your husband has received a top up from the company, it seems they now have to claw this money back somehow and until business picks up, it is probably not an unreasonable move. But his wage must not go below National Minimum/Living WageIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1

He can refuse and hold them to their obligation to pay 100% and leave them with the decision to pay or make him redundant with a payout.
- All land is owned. If you are not on yours, you are on someone else's
- When on someone else's be it a road, a pavement, a right of way or a property there are rules. Don't assume there are none.
- "Free parking" doesn't mean free of rules. Check the rules and if you don't like them, go elsewhere

If he agrees the reduction in salary, he would be wise to have it time-limited if the company will agree to that.
I was not even aware that furniture stores were now allowed to reopen.1 -

But if they decide to pay him the 100%, it will certainly put him well out of the running for "Employee of the Month" and if they make him redundant, he will no doubt have a hard time finding another job especially as unemployment is set to rise. He is also unlikely to get a glowing referenceIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1
