Bidet Toilet Seats

Hi,

Due to disability and mobility issues, I am considering getting one of these but I know nothing about them, nor anyone who has one.

Does anyone have any experience of them and can tell me - are they worth it? And what is needed from an electrical and plumbing point of view to install it?

Thanks in advance.

Well I developed an interest in them after a trip to Japan and my enquiries revealed that because of the plumbing regulations here they are hard to install here because of the need to prevent back-siphonage ie the potential to cause contamination of the water supply. I'm sure it's do-able but it'll be expensive. I wouldn't be surprised if it'd cost £3K or so but that's a guess and that's for a specific bidet toilet rather than just a seat with bidet facility.

Thank you for the reply! I’ll check out with our electrician and find a plumber (need a new one of those).

There are some seats with the facility to do it a lot cheaper, but of course I don’t know what sort of quality they are.

Most of the ones in Japan seem to be Toto brand but you don't see them over here. Geberit seem to be a brand that's available here. They are absolutely everywhere in Japan (Toto) in hotels, even in public toilets in railway stations. You can choose from dozens of types in their equivalent of Curry's.
You might want to take  a look at this thread on the Ultimate Handyman website - I made enquiries on my return from Japan a year ago and having been initially inspired was put off and decided the only answer was to emigrate to Japan!

Thanks again. It looks like a move to Japan is on the cards then! :D

It seems such a fantastic idea too but I certainly don’t want poop water in my coffee!

Do you know anything about bidet showers - much cheaper and simpler alternative?

I thought I’d replied to this last night but it seems it didn’t post. I didn’t know of those. I’ll have a search. Thank you.
  • Bidet showers will contravene the Water Regulations unless they are protected by an air gap, which generally means they have to be tank fed (hot and cold).
Water Regulations may sound boring, but they are there to make sure the water supply for everyone is clean, and not contaminated by the selfish few.

Doesn't that involve doing a handstand in the shower? As the OP has disability problems, this may not work.
