What is it that draws people to banks?

Banks always had short opening times even prior to Covid. Like every shop on my town's high street is open 9am to 5.30pm yet the last few banks we have are open silly hours like 9.45am to 4pm or on a Wednesday it's something like 10am to 3.30pm. Half day trading on Wednesday went out in the 90s but they banks are still to catch on. Now they are using Covid to reduce the hours further.0
