Fees charged by Claim Easy

Options
My wife is due a PPI refund made on her behalf by Claim Easy and their fee is 35% plus Vat as the claim started before the fee cap. Is this payable on the gross amount, as they're saying, or the net amount my wife's received? Also is there really no way she can challenge these high fees please?

    It's the gross amount.

She agreed to pay them their high fees, so needs to pay them.

You need to help her improve her money management skills.  First she was missold PPI and now she doesnt understand what entering into a contract means.

No you cannot challenge them.    She agreed to them.  For the CMC, it is about 5 minutes of work., if that.  So, yes it is expensive for her but maybe it will help her learn from her mistakes.

  • Many thanks as you say it's a bit unfortunate but hindsight is a wonderful thing,  and do either of you know if the fee is payable on the gross or net refund please?

She should check what the contract she signed said (it doesn't matter what we say here, as the contract is the definitive source). But as ZX81 says, it will be gross - gross is more than net, and CMC companies would certainly prefer more than less...

CMC contracts stipulate  that their fees are a percentage (now capped at 20%) of the total amount awarded before tax.
I've never heard of any CMC charging based on the net amount.
So the OP will pay the Claim Company fee, plus VAT, plus income tax.
