Listed building (II) and re-pointing.

Good evening!
I live in a grade 2 listed building (Stone) in Bedfordshire. And my house is in need of a lot of re-pointing work. I can not seem to get a solid answer from searching. So, do I need planning permission? and if I do. Can I carry out the work myself?
Thank you:)

You will require Listed Building Consent for any works carried out to the property, both internally and externally. You can deal with the preparation and submission of the application yourself or appoint somebody who is familiar with the Planning process. In addition to your Local Planning Authority’s validation requirements, you will more than likely be required to submit drawings, details and specification/method statement for the re-pointing, again done by you or somebody else who is familiar with the process and requirements.

Because listed buildings vary so much and there are some where the details of original stonework and pointing are more important, you should seek confirmation from the planning officer for your specific building and plans. There is a good chance this is a repair that does not need consent - so long as you are using the right mortar and not modern cement, but the planning office are the people to confirm this. See: https://historicengland.org.uk/advice/hpg/assistanceforowners/maintenance/It really shouldn't need consent for simple like for like repairs, but it wouldn't hurt to ask. You should definitely be using the right materials, most likely a lime mortar.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

So easy to mix up a small amount of mortar/plaster, and as long as the stuff is kept wet, it never goes off. For exterior work NHL lime is probably better, but it doesn't keep long once wet.For pointing, a recent thread ( http://www.periodproperty.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16933 ) featured a handy little gadget -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=811RvqR-ECw Easy enough make, and you can adjust the size to suit mortar joint width. Wish I had seen it a couple of years back... Just don't waste your money on a mortar gun - They are useless with lime mortar.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –
