Gunk on tiles

Options
We had a new sink fitted by John Wayne's grandson. Thats another story.

When the old sink was removed from the wall there was a lot of residue left on the tiles. This was holding the old sink on the wall without any screws so was strong stuff. It was so strong that it held the sink on the wall on its own when the pedestal underneath was removed.

We dont know what this stuff was but nail varnish remover (acetone) hasn't shifted it.

Any ideas? Photo below, thanks.

Possible it's silicone - you can but silicone remover but a blade and elbow grease will achieve the same thing

Dont think it is silicone. Two fist size blobs kept a large heavy sink secured to the wall after the pedestal was removed and the sink had to be smashed to pieces to remove it because it just would not budge.

Could be a grab adhesive - A hot air gun might soften it up enough to scrape off, but do watch you don't overheat the tiles or they may crack.
There are also solvents available to remove grab adhesives, but I don't know how effective they are.

Alternative, if you have any spare tiles. Remove the affected tiles, and fit new ones.
