Divorce.

Hi

just looking to see if anyone’s been in this situation and has any advice.

I’m currently separating from my ex husband. We are selling our house.
We bought our house and then got married 6 months later
I put the full 20k deposit onto the house. Paid solicitors fees as I got 42k inheritance

I used the other bits of money to pay for the wedding and numerous holidays also

i have always paid half the bills, and our 6 year old will live with my full time.

My ex always said I could have my deposit back if we split. But now tells me he’s going to take half as he deserves it

 can he do this?

Did you have a declaration of trust drawn up when buying the house?

How long have you been married?

Wikivorce is a great forum to discuss separating and divorce.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.
  • No we didn’t and we were married for 7 months. Separated a year ago.

Sorry but you are still married now, so its 19 months. However that is largely irrelevant as it's a short marriage.

In such circumstances it's putting you both back to where you would be (though you'll not see a penny for wedding and holidays costs)

You'll need to get a financial order in relation to your marriage before you distribute the marital assets, this is to protect you from future claims from your husband.
