How does affiliate marketing work with income tax?

I have my own personal blog which I don't earn money from. However I would like to earn a little extra cash outside of my full-time job (pocket money if you like) via affiliate marketing, however I'm unsure if I would need to pay tax on any small earnings I make through an affiliate sale. For example, if I sell a piece of unsused clothing on eBay etc. but I'm not required to declare this as tax. This is similar to selling an e-book through an affiliate link, so would I need to declare this as tax?

Hi there - in short, yes by law you'd need to pay tax on these earnings as far as I'm aware. You can fill in a self assessment on-line if the earnings are pretty low, though if you want to offset any business costs you'd need to register as self employed. There's a good article on this from moreniche called 'Affiliate Marketing Income and Taxes in the UK – What You Need to Know'.0
