You're not worried about having a break in that removes the boiler, and pipework? You're not worried about water leaks from other flats, or the risk of fire? No building is completely secure. The fact that you think there is nothing of value isn't important as a thief will only discover that once they've broken in... but the break in will have happened by then.karl1973_2 said:Thank you guys for your responses. For home insurance, I renewed it a month ago. Re. the alarm, I am lucky to live in a secure place with lovely neighbours; besides, I don't have anything valuable in the property.
As long as the renewed policy allows you to be away for a year (standard policies don't) and to have no alarm (because you've disconnected the electricity...) then great.
If you're switching the power off, you'll need to completely disable the alarm when you leave as the battery backup may sound the alarm for ages as a warning when it is about to die - that will seriously !!!!!! your neighbours off, and could invalidate your insurance.0 -
Insurers may insist that someone visits the property - perhaps weeklyNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0
