Furlough pay

Hi I wonder if anybody could shed some light for me as I can’t find anything. Also my employer doesn’t seem to know either and not much is being done about it, I am on a contract of 39 hours per week on a set hourly rate. I rotate every fortnightly on dayshift and nightshift rotation. Being paid at time and a third when nightshift. Also regular overtime each week. On average around 8 - 12 hours per week, paid at time and a half. My employer paid us 80% of our basic dayshift rate at the 39 hours. ( obviously a lot less than what I am used to earning per week ). Should I have been paid more or is this correct what they have paid me?
My salary over the tax year for 2019/2020 was nearly double of that it would be on a basic year doing no shift work or overtime. Am I right to be questioning my employer ?
thanks in advance, Chris.

I think your pay varies enough on a monthly basis for you to be regarded as a variable pay employee rather than a fixed rate employee. Therefore your furlough pay (assuming they are paying you what they can recover) for a period should be the higher of:
- what you were paid for the equivalent calendar period in the previous year
- your average pay for an equivalent period in 2019/20.

Jeremy gave you the correct answer within 5 minutes of your OP. That answer is also favourable for you. Why would we add any more?ChrisMunro20 said:Any more info from anyone?1
