Advice please regarding faulty vehicle exchange

I purchased a brand new Honda CB1000R motorcycle in June 2019 and have had a hot start issue with it since purchase. The bike has been back to the dealer a couple of times and have failed to fix it. It is still there and has been since 8th January. I contacted Honda in January and a case has been ongoing regarding exchange for a new bike which they have finally agreed to do. However, Honda contacted me today to let me know the exchange is still going ahead, but, their policy being a like for like exchange they now don't have any 2019 models to exchange it for, only the new 2020 model. Sounds like a good swap for me, but there's a catch. They want me to pay an £800 customer contribution before they will exchange! I have refused as I told them its not my problem they don't have a similar model to exchange for. The 2020 model is exactly the same bar a couple of cosmetic changes. Am I in the right to refuse paying anything towards it or will I be expected to pay something? I was told that as mine is now used with miles on it (just over 700 miles) I won't get full value for it even though its been faulty since day one. Any advice greatly appreciated while I wait for Honda to reply again

But your bike's not the same. It's a used, second hand, 2019 model with 700 hundred miles on it's back.  Do you believe the 700 miles you've done should be free?

Push them too hard and they may just refund minis the use you've had from the bike. You'll still be left paying for a 2020 new bike or used. Maybe a secondhand bike with 1000 miles on the clock has hidden problems too.

How is it not the same? Not quite sure where you're headed? The only difference is a different colour on the dash surround. The bike has had a fault from new, as in 0 miles. If they still had a 2019 model sat on a shelf somewhere they would swap it without any contribution. I've already paid over £1000 deposit on original purchase.

I've left it with them for a minute, first phone call. I'm out of pocket already with insurance, road tax, first service paid and pcp payments

In a year or so's time, will a 2020 bike with X miles be worth more than a 2019 bike with X+700?

That is obvious, however had a 2019 model been available it would have been supplied with no extra cost but with a 20 plate and as quoted by the dealer would be valued as a 20 not a 19 if traded in so will still be a higher value as well so whats the difference?

It appears there is new stock of 2019-model CB1000Rs within the dealer chain, so the OP's dealer and Honda UK should be able to arrange a stock swap or come to some other arrangement with this dealer...

I wonder if they know that? I'll mention it when they next contact, thanks
