Economy 7 Nightmare!

Options
Please help me!
I’ve just moved to a flat that has no gas, just electricity. I currently have storage heaters which I hate and want to have changed to panel heaters but I don’t know the best way to get a tariff sorted. I’m currently on Economy 7 and I don’t really know how to change off this... or if I should? And if I do change do the heating is cheaper on the day... how does that work with the water tank? It doesn’t have a timer, just a day rate and off peak switch. I don’t know what to do!

    Don't change to panel heaters - find out how to control the storage rads .
    The immersion is probably timed by the meter - stay up late and when the meter changes over the bottom heater on the immersion tank should switch in (there may be a neon). The top switch should be off.

    I trust in moving in you rang the existing supplier and gave them readings.   Have you changed supplier since ?

    First things first.  Have you read the meter yourself and registered with the existing supplier?  If not, do it tonight, otherwise you'll be on an expensive 'deemed' tariff.  Take a photo of the readings for future reference.
    Whatever you do, having no gas will be expensive when winter comes, so ideally think about moving.
  • EmilyC84,

    Budget:
    Chuck the crystal ball of misinformation and others invented facts and get your own real personal facts from your own online account.  You get control by knowing how many kWh you use in a year divide the annual cost by 12, pay the same amount every month by DD and you have an annual budget that you understand.
    Method;
    I'm E7 credit meter, use 8500kWh per year. I self supply my own meter reads every 6 weeks, they try to put it up each winter time and down each summer time, I refuse and keep paying 1/12th annual cost per month. I use 70% on cheap night tariff and 30% on expensive day rate. I've done this for decades, never been in arrears and live in 21C winter comfort with 150 litres of leigionella safe bubbling hot water per day in a super well insulated PartL spec standard water cylinder. In 5 decades I've never used the (convection=bad=only warms ceilings) boost on the radiator and use only (radiated=good human) heat.
    Get Control;
    Get control, take charge, stop guessing, find yourfyour own real facts. Tell the good people on this sub forum what you need to know and they will help you.
    Your Questions;
    "want to have changed to panel heaters/don’t know the best way to get a tariff sorted/or if I should?/or if I should?""
    Panel is expensive day rate,Water will then be expensive day rate. You will typically cost yourself 30% more expensive by going panel, including water.If you own the flat its your choice, rent the flat its your landlords choice. Gas is cheaper than E7, but E7 is the cheapest electric domestic heating. Do the basics 1st as Gerry & Robin say. Best of luck.

    Ditch your NSH's and you will then be paying about 300% more for all your heating and hot water. Why would you do that?
    By all means fit newer, prettier ones if you want though, but stay on E7.

    Don't sign up to anything with the existing supplier that has an exit fee, just register and set up a DD.  You then need to determine an energy strategy and choose the best tariff, and that probably won't be with the existing supplier.

    As others have posted all expert advice! So take it. If you want to stay?

    For myself, move out as soon as you can. Unless you get everything right it is only going to be an expensive heart ache.

    Sorry! My opinion only. But keep asking questions if you decide to stay, as there is experienced information / advice here.  Good Luck!
