I emailed a company and asked if they had a folder to fit a certain size sheet, and emailed a link to the products I wanted to put in the folder.

They came back and said yes you need blah.  Duly ordered but on arrival, didn't fit.

Now they are saying that my link didn't work.  I've checked that and they're right but they didn't come back to me and tell me it didn't work, they just assumed their product would be suitable.

Do I have the right to return at their cost?

If you've got what you asked and what they said in an email or web chat session log, then you may be able to reject the folder as not being fit for purpose (I think), but best to wait for a board regular or 2 to answer as well in case I'm wrong.

Also, what size sheet(s) were you looking to get a folder for?

    I agree.
Goods being fit for purpose includes:

10 Goods to be fit for particular purpose

(1)Subsection (3) applies to a contract to supply goods if before the contract is made the consumer makes known to the trader (expressly or by implication) any particular purpose for which the consumer is contracting for the goods.

and IMO, even though the retailer couldn't open the link provided, they had been made aware that there was important information contained in it so they shouldn't have proceeded without further clarification.
However, depending on the return costs, it might not be worth spending too much time and effort trying to pursue the matter.

A4 polypocket, but they have supplied suitable for A4 paper, which I could have bought at Tesco (other supermarkets are available).

I agree that one has to decide where the balance lies between cost and hassle!  My visit to MSE today is more about seeing if my understanding of the law ties in with you guys.
