Old sprouting onion

I was cleaning out the veg rack in the kitchen and found a red onion sprouting so I planted it in the garden and now it is growing.
Never having done this before I am left wondering what to expect.

Any help welcome.

Treat it like any other bulb Duncan - look after it. It will flower, and beneficial insects will love it and they'll be really pleased with you. After the flower there will be seeds to save for next year. This is a good use for any old sprouting onions. They are Alliums.

Another plan is for humans to eat the green shoots snipped into any meal they fancy.

I'm looking forward to see what happens with it, if there are seeds eventually, they will get dried and planted next year.
More shoots have sprouted since the bulb was planted so it has obviously taken a liking to its new home

Seems that you can grow onions from tops or bottoms of onions.

Very good but he did not show the finished onion grown from the root
