Hi Mandy, go bankrupt, and get on with your life. 12 years ago, I had a successful business, then the banks started to say no, and I had no idea why, it drove me to the brink of suicide, as I couldn't understand what was going on and it messed with my mind like you wouldn't believe. In hindsight I was doing nothing wrong the banking crash upon us. I lost two houses, two shops, my car and had to borrow £8000 from my mother to pay a VAT bill. (my only regret) Once I realised I had no option but to go bankrupt and it all went through the courts you cannot imagine the relief I felt !
As regard your landlord, if his debt has to be written off, could he not simply increase your rent for the rest of your tenancy!!
May I add the only thing I didn't lose was my girlfriend now wife and celebrated 20 years together this month.
On the other hand you have absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain. There is no shame in it! The shame should lie with the Credit Card Companies and Banks allowing you to get in this position in the first place!!
