Been made redundant, AXA say they wont cover my cancelled operation

So i've had a series of really unfortunate events, on top of being in this horrid lockdown! I've been made redundant and I have to leave on the 8th June. I have private medical insurance with the company. Back in December I made a claim for an issue with my nose & was scheduled to have an operation in March. Two days before, they cancelled it, after arranging a deal with the NHS to use the hospital as overspill. It's unlikely I am going to be able to have the operation for a little while longer now.
AXA had approved the operation before, but now its cancelled, I've reached out to them and they say any operation that happens after 8th June will not be covered.
Is this just the reality of the situation here and i'm going to have to go without the operation, or am I being treated unfairly?
I will go back to square one and go via the NHS route but I dont think that will be fast. Now it seems having PMI isnt all that useful! I've gone through 6 months of diagnostic just to end up kicked out the system :(

Presumably the simplest option would be to look at paying to extend your cover or asking your employer to extend as part of your package. I can't see any other way that you're going to get the treatment oherwise

Your PMI is paid by your employer so will end when the employment ends.  You are not being treated unfairly.  Check with your employer / AXA to see if you can continue cover, paying the cost yourself.  Be aware that the cost will be much higher than any contribution you made toward the cover provided by your employer.  I was in a similar position although I had an operation during the redundancy notice period.  I needed to pay for the physio and other post op treatment so took over the insurance.  In the first year that was £99 per month.  In the second year they wanted over £300 per month so I cancelled at that point.  At £99 per month is was worth having as there was at that time an expectation that my wife would have to claim on the policy.  In the end that wasn't required.
  • Yes sad but true the job ends the PMI ends, have you spoke to your GP about getting referred to the NHS for the treatment? They seem to be opening things up slowly.
