Flat Parking

Hello all, just looking for some clarity regarding local parking. We live in a flat block which is next to several other flats with some houses in between. Most of the addresses have there own garage and there are a few areas for parking out of the garages (not in front of garages, separate areas). However apart from two spaces which are marked by wall plaques belonging to a property, nothing else is marked to say it is or isn't a parking space. I have been parking in a space next to these 2 spaces no problem for several months, however my neighbour has just explained he has bought a LWB vehicle and cannot get into his adjacent space because parking here obstructs him. This hasn't been a problem whilst he has been storing a standard vehicle in the space because the clearance is plenty big for a standard vehicle. Now of course I understand if the space I have been using isn't actually for parking then I have no right to contest this. But if it is then it means he is rendering this space unusable by storing a vehicle larger than an average parking space in his, this would also surely mean the onus is on him to find elsewhere to park the vehicle.

I am unsure if the law regarding this has any discrimination for different size vehicles, if anybody would be able to provide information that would be great.
Then the next thing would be how would I find information which provides area plans on the buildings and parking arrangement for the area, this way I can confirm if it is actually a parking spot or not. Also does the land which is free count as public or private as I am aware of differences between the two regarding restrictions.

I hope this makes sense and I look forward to hearing peoples responses.

The "how" question can be answered by paying the Land Registry for a copy of the site plans? This will also tell what are (and are not) defined parking spaces.

What does the lease for your flat say about parking?

It is probable that all the land in that vicinity is private and owned by a freeholder or freeholders? The LR info will likely tell you who this is/these are.

Hi DoaM, thank you for your reply. I was not aware of the land registry but I will check it out, I feel as though that will provide the information I seek. The agreement merely mentions a garage is included, it doesn't say anything else with regards to parking. Also there is no signage or markings to indicate any of the available spaces.

You mention two spaces are marked with a plaque but are any of the bays marked on the ground and if so are you parking in a marked bay?
