Claims Assistance (UK) Ltd

I was contacted by this company last week saying they had secured my PPI back and a 20% refund on an old BOS loan I had years ago. I went along with it to see what they would send over. All looks perfectly legit. However, when they called me back to make sure I had recoeved the docs, they said I would have to pay their fee upfront. This is what I sent back to them
Hi,

Further to our conversation earlier on today regarding me paying your fees before you can have the money released to me, I would like to question the below. In section C and D you state that I do not need to pay any monies to you until 7 days after i have recieved the funds. I was told today that i have to pay it immediately, which does not make sense.

Please confirm that the money will be released to me and once the cheque has cleared i can then pay you.

Many thanks

Louise

4. Fees
. Our fee is 20% excluding the VAT of the PPi redress which we obtain for you as
a result of a successful claim. E.g. a PPi refund of £10,000 would have a
success fee of £2,000.
a. We will not charge you if the claim is unsuccessful.
b. If the financial company does not agree to pay your claim and we have
to challenge them in the county court in that case you would have to
pay the solicitor’s before you receive the funds in your account.
c. If the financial company does not pay the redress directly to us, we will
send you an invoice for an amount equal to 20% excluding the VAT of the
PPi redress payable 7 days upon receipt of funds.
d. We request payment 7 days after you receive your redress and reserve
the right to charge you interest on all sums which have not been paid by
you at the rate of 2% per annum over the base lending rate of Bank.
e. We reserve the right to charge you for any reasonable costs incurred in
seeking to recover our fee from you.
f. Where debts are passed over for collection due to non–payment the
debtor will pay all legal and collection costs.

The company is registered with companies house and have been trading since 1993. They have healthy books, but I'm very suspicious. Has anyone else had any dealings with this company?

TIA

Louise

Unless you employed them, they have not 'secured' any PPI back.

If you have had a complaint upheld, the bank will let you know and pay you directly.

Bin their letters and don't respond to any more claims companies promising you money.

In order for them to "secure" a PPI refund they would first require your written permission to act on your behalf. Also, since your financial records are not in the public domain, they would require you to furnish them with the details of  the loan. If you didn't provide them with a Letter Of Authority (LOA) or the details of accounts you held then they cannot have "secured" you anything.

You do realise that the deadline for PPI complaints passed in August last year?

Basically, it sounds like you've fallen for a SPAM call and should cease all engagement with this firm. Under no circumstances should you pay them any money in advance.

That's what I thought. I'm not going ahead with it, but I just wanted to warn others. They looked very legit on paper

They'll probably now "charge" you a fee for the "work" they've already done...

When you or a claims company make a complaint, then the bank replies to you acknowledging the complaint explaining the process and your right to go to the FOS.   When the complaint is completed, the bank writes to you telling you the outcome.

So, if you believe you did not employ the company and had no communications from your bank then something is amiss.

, they said I would have to pay their fee upfront.

Yet their t&C (that you have posted) says otherwise.

If they had the money, they could just deduct the fee and send you the remainder.   If you had the money, you would know about it and pay it.

However, there is an FCA warning about this company name either operating unlawfully (without regulatory permissions) or operating a scam (FCA words)

They do not appear on the FCA register under the company number and the name gives a warning about being a scam or acting unlawfully (without authorisations) as per link above.

  • Was contacted today (2nd/03/2021) by this company offering me a £6000 PPI refund on a loan I had in 2008.It was a London number that called,0203 769 1302.Sounded very convincing, but I was able to finish the call without committing to anything as it sounded too good to be true, offering much of the same as above to Lou 7603.Watch out there is a scammer about!
