Can your employer reduce your salary by 20% bringing you down below minimum wage?

This isn't on the cards yet but if my employer was to ask me to take a 20% pay cut, and that would bring me down below the minimum wage. Can they do that ?  Or I guess reducing hours would be more sensible. I'm furloughed at the moment but as I work in a restaurant it's still uncertain what will happen in the next few months. The only positive is that I have been working in the restaurant for 20 years so i guess any changes i would have to agree or would they make md redundant?

No, they have to pay at least minimum wage. The 80% furlough payment can be below min wage.

Worth stressing it would have to be the CURRENT NMW although furlough would be based on the old NMW.

Regardless of contract they can't take you below NMW but depending on your contract they could reduce your hours.
