In order to get a meaningful answer you will have to define what you mean by 'paying for your daughter's wedding'

do you mean you paid the church and want the money back for the ceremony or do you mean you paid for a lavish £50,000 all flights hotels etc paid to the Seychelles

The first place to seek a refund will be the supplier you've paid - if they cancel then the Ts & Cs of whatever contract you've entered into should include refund provisions, but if necessary you may also have card-related protection either via section 75 (credit cards) or chargeback if you're able to satisfy the conditions of these arrangements.

If cancellation is your choice and the supplier maintains they can still deliver, then the situation will be more complex....

...almost certainly more complex but definately less complicated  - the answer will be no.

Not necessarily - I currently have an accommodation booking for later this year with a free cancellation policy, i.e. I can choose to cancel at my discretion and receive a full refund.  Since we don't have any visibility of exactly what OP has booked, I don't think it's possible to assert that they'd definitely lose out by cancelling, although would concede that wedding-related bookings are less likely to have refundable deposits....

ah yes of course - i didn't take into account tje possibility that they could have a cancellation option in their contract...

Sorry, to hijack your post Hotdog, I was trying to not create a new, unnecessary post (but will do so if that's what I'm supposed to do?)
I booked a couple of flights with AMEX that were due to fly back in March with different companies.  I didn't hear a single peep from one company so applied to AMEX to get my money back, which they did.  I have had some communication (automated) from the other company (BudgetAir) saying that refunds are taking a while to process and they have to wait for the airline to refund them so I thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and see what happened.  The problem is that I need to cancel my Amex in June or I'll have to pay the annual fee.  If I cancel my card would I still be covered if the company don't come through with the refund?
How long do people think we should be waiting for these companies?  Should I ask Amex to try to recover my money now?  [I did have another flight booked in May. Even though I booked through a 3rd party, AirCanada responded and gave me a 24month voucher straight away; I didn't push for a refund as I thought this was very generous given I'd booked through a 3rd party and am (relatively) happy they wont go bust - this just shows that the Airlines themselves are responding relatively quickly which casts more doubt in my mind on the 3rd parties.]
Thank you in advance for any help
