Unrecognised Soft Searches

Hi all, 
First time poster here.
I know that insurance companies carry out soft searches when you do a quote, especially through the comparison sites etc. 

I was checking my credit report today and saw that in the last few days there were 4/5 soft searches done by insurance companies (Aviva, Right Choice, Lexis Nexis to name a few).

I have used comparison sites before but I haven't used one or done any insurance quotes since the end of 2019. I'm wondering where these searches have come from, do insurance companies periodically perform credit searches like banks do?

I know these soft searches won't affect my score, but I'm more concerned someone might be using my details or is this irrational?

Any advice would be appreciated!

This has happened to me recently, I did the same, freaked out thinking there was fraud going on (about to apply for a mortgage so I'm obsessed with checking) rang Experian.
Apparently if you use a comparison site you tick a box to allow them to search when your insurance is nearly up (or when they think its nearly up!)
Don't worry, soft searches won't show on your file.
