Fixed or variable rate for energy?

I'm moving into a new flat soon, which will only supply electricity.
I'm currently thinking about
SO Energy - 12 months fixed and £5 early exit fee - estimated at 13.670p per kWh and 22.050p per day
Bulb - Variable - No contract and no early exit fee - estimated at 14.255p per kWh and standing charge 20.558p per day
Octopus Energy - 12 months no early exit fee - estimated at 14.553p per kWh and 21.672p per day
Anyway in this current climate, what is usually better? fixed or variable rates for energy?

If you put your Postcode in https://octopus.energy/tariffs/ ignore quote button and scroll down to Octopus Tracker v1 that is the tariff this wise owl is on, available with/without a smart meter very low KWH rates currently and cheaper SC than other Octopus tariffsI would also suggest if you check with a comparison site and tick box within filter box which says show all tariffs including those switching site cannot switch to you will see a completely different set of cheaper options

All those prices seem pretty high to me. I guess it varies by region but here in the East, 12.5p/kWh and 15p/day is the going rate.0
