Car PCP returning car

I had come to the end of my PCP contract for my car and was due to return the car to the dealer on the same day we went in Cobid19 full lockdown, due to the dealership closing they informed me i was unable to return the car until they opened for business. I have since had to make two monthly payments and would assume that as the car could be nearly 3 months older if not more they will decrease they're original valuation of the car, what are my rights, can i get a refund of the unexpected monthly payments and should they honour the original valuation.
thanks.

Are you still using the car?

When I returned mine I stopped paying for it but we were able to continue using it until they collected which ended up being a few weeks later.
  • The problem is you were selling it to the dealer. You didn't tell the finance company you wanted to end the contract and please come get the car.

You could ask the dealer for some goodwill and to keep the old valuation. If you are having another car off them your are in a better position.

I have never had a PCP car, but your position does seem rather odd.  It would be good if you can make contact with the dealer and / or finance company to seek clarification.  Areas of question that I see just from this thread:
    • If you are making payments you don't need to, it will likely be hard to get the money back.
    • If it was the dealer that closed, why should you incur any detriment?  Offset that against if you have still been using the car and adding mileage
    • Could the finance company interpret your continuing payments as a desire to keep the car for longer and / or contributions to the balloon payment?
Regarding the valuation, I am sure the Dealer will try to offer less.  It might be worth doing some research as two on-line motoring sites I use both say used car prices will rise because of Coronavirus.  I don't trust their logic, but those articles may be of help to you in this situation.

Well that's your first mistake right there. You should've been dealing with the finance company, not the dealer, and refused to make any further payments. That would of course also meant that you should have also stopped using the car. Also, what's the value of the car got to do with anything if your were handing it back?
